Are God’s expectations too high, too unrealistic? Why does Christianity seem to have so many “rules”? Are we looking at God’s commands in the wrong way? A listener wrote in with these fundamental questions, and Pat does his best to offer a fundamental answer.

Excellent explanation of the difference between theology and philosophy. I get these two things confused and I know I’m not the only person who does. Lots of confusion out there concerning the two and as you point out, it’s a distinct difference. Will check out the C.S. Lewis book too!

Through the years, I’ve learned the hard way that God wants us to obey Him for two good reasons. 1) It’s a show of our love for Him and more importantly (at least to me) 2) He has a plan for our lives and wants to protect us from the dangers in the world. Christianity isn’t about what you can’t do with God but how much more you can do WITH God. The benefits are amazing and you’ll find an amazing life without the pitfalls of sin holding you back.

I always try and engage people with an open mind and politeness but I don’t understand how people can tell me what God wants or what their interpretation of the Bible is. How do I know who I should trust when it comes to spiritual matters? I’m no theologian and I find religions to be confusing. Aren’t they all the same thing, just a way to approach God or a Supreme Being?
