Damn, Dan John is a smart dude; I mean, If he were anything more like the author of this blog, he’d be a total jenius!
But really, imagine how much stronger most folks would be if they just scaled back, and followed this simple, simple advice?
Imagine how much stronger YOU could be following this low-rep, high-quality approach, if you aren’t already.
It doesn’t sound “sexy”, but who cares—it works!
This is why very nearly all of my programs follow the rep scheme 1,2,3,1,2,3. Because really and truly, it’s the “sweet spot” for strength! Dan himself even uses it now, so there MUST be something to it, right? He actually went and put it into his 10,000 rep swing challenge, but apparently, the editors of T-Nation took the part out where he credited me, which really steams my beef…
Anyways, if you’re looking for a program like this, here’s a “back-door” way get my Metabolic Reset at a discount, which features a full low-rep strength and conditioning program, and nutritional protocol. It’s all laid out for you: strength and fat loss.
Just follow these two steps, and you can have it at a $14 discount and with a few cool bonuses ($20 vs. $34).

Dan the man! How can you not love everything Dan puts out? He’s the crazy uncle of the fitness industry. Some of the best gains I ever made strength wise were from Easy Strength. Now it’s on to Met Reset! Thanks Pat
Pat Flynn says
Thank you, Geoff. Keep strong!

Oh, and if you somehow don’t have a copy of Dan John’s book Intervention, I wholeheartedly recommend it–I can’t offer any a higher recommendation, really.

It’s a book with instruction not just on lifting, but on life.

Great info as always…but what about the explosive whole body movements?!?!?! It’s cruel to leave us hanging like that. And I too have to admit I’m a fan of “Easy Strength”. I’m going back to it for a while after pushing a wee bit too hard with the Met Reset program.
Pat Flynn says
Andy, he has explosive work in ES–just follow that outline.
Ron says
Great stuff Pat,
What’s the deal with warmups with this protocol? Say you’re using it on bench at 250lbs, do you start at 250 or do a warm up set at say 135 first?
Thanks!
Ron
Pat Flynn says
Hey Ron, easiest thing to do is “make the warm up the workout” as Dan would say. So yes, a few light sets would qualify. But all other general bodywork never hurts, either.
