I enjoyed this talk with Prof. Jim. I particularly appreciated his honesty when he said that choice of religion is, in part, based on cultural factors, and the fact that he was raised in an Irish family played some role in his decision. I was also raised Catholic but I no longer practice any type of organized religion (and I can explain why if you really want to know and I assure you that any discussion we have will be very civil). Nonetheless, I can appreciate that Catholicism has positive aspects, specifically, the fact that there is a strong tradition of education and an attempt to use reason to provide answers to the “Big Questions” as opposed to the fire-and-brimstone approach of “You either believe what we tell you or else you’re going to Hell.” As such, I enjoy your discussions and writings on theology as much as I enjoy your kettlebell workouts (your Beast Mother complex really is difficult despite using only ONE kettlebell).

I appreciate the kind words, Mike, and am glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the non-fitness related episodes, even if you find yourself not practicing any particular religion at this point. May God bless you!
