The Right Way to Look at The 80/20 Rule
This episode is all about productivity, which isn’t about making more time, per se, but making most of the time you already have.
Thus, Pat shares a series of strategies–including, but not limited to–the use of the 80/20 rule for making efforts as effective and efficient as possible. Pat also talks about utilizing Parkinson’s Law, the “15 minutes a day” approach, and “gun to your head” thought experiments to get the most juice out of every squeeze.
Enjoy!

Pat, like I’ve always said — always great content! I’ve used the Pareto principle (80/20 rule) in a lot of things. I also do the milestone on goal settling, 3 months, 6 months, so and so. This is a great time to review how far we’ve come and it’s very timely you did it for June. Haha. It’s amazing how you were able to share all those stuff just when you newly woke up (Oh, it must be the coffee.) Effectiveness is doing the right things, and efficiency is doing things right — love these points!

You aren’t kidding when you say “where did the day go?” Pat, I thought I wake up early (5am) but 3am is ridiculous (not only that, but it’s ridiculous). Yes, it’s hard to believe it’s six months into 2018. It is good to reflect on your goals. I’ve always been a big believer in looking in the windshield to see what’s ahead rather than looking at the rear-view mirror. Nonetheless, it’s good to take an occasional peek to see where you’ve been—just don’t get lost in the past. Congrats on finishing the book! I know you’ve been fretting over it. Those contracts and the dreaded deadline doom provide lots of motivation for finishing your book. LOL. Goals are important and as I’ve found, setting a timetable is the only way you’re going to reach a big goal. I’ve been doing that for years, but I never thought of micro, meso, and macro goals. Good ideas, particularly the “gun to your head” mode when it comes to getting certain things done.

Hey Pat. Never heard of the 80/20 rule until I listened to your podcast. That’s an interesting concept, but more interesting (at least to me) is allocating 80% of your time to the 20% that’s producing the 80% output. Confused? I was at first, but you explained it well. Make the most of your time.
