Today is the feast day of Thomas Aquinas, one of my favorite philosophers and Catholic saints. Aquinas is the thinker most responsible for my becoming Catholic, hence why I adopted Thomas as my confirmation name. Thus, I am Patrick Daniel Thomas Flynn. Or is it Thomas Daniel? Either way.
More relevantly, I was invited with Dr. Gaven Kerr onto Gary Michuta’s radio show to discuss one of Aquinas’s metaphysical arguments for an absolutely simple, necessarily exciting, supreme foundation of everything else that exists (namely, God) found in his De Ente et Essentia.
Here’s the replay, with links to additional resources for anyone who wants to explore Aquinas’s thought further.
PS – Probably I can announce at this point that Gaven and I are working on a book project together of the same title, wherein we plan to defend the De Ente Argument, then use the background metaphysics to interpret each of Aquinas’s 5 ways.
